Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that develops in the cervix, or ‘cervix’. Cancer precursors (CIN) occur when the cells that form the surface of the cervix turn into abnormal cells. If they are not detected and treated early, they can turn into cancer.
The most common cause of these cell changes in the cervix is Human Papiloma Virus (HPV) infections. Sexually transmitted HPV can cause cervical cancer. Therefore, HPV vaccination is essential.
Cervical cancer, which is the most common type of cancer in women, may not give symptoms in the early period. However, vaginal bleeding and discharge, pain and bleeding during sexual intercourse, feeling of fullness and mass in the vagina can be seen. Therefore, routine screening programs for early diagnosis are of great importance in the fight against this disease.
To prevent cervical cancer:
-Women between the ages of 21-65 should not neglect routine screening tests such as smear and HPV.
-Avoid smoking and tobacco products.
-Care should be taken to be at an ideal weight.
-Take precautions against sexually transmitted diseases.
-The immune system should be strengthened.
