Urinary incontinence is the involuntary expulsion of urine from the urinary tract. Urinary incontinence develops due to changes in abdominal pressure in situations such as coughing and sneezing. Urinary incontinence or incontinence negatively affects social life.

It can be seen in different age groups for different reasons. It occurs especially after menopause in women. The medical term for urinary incontinence is urinary incontinence.

In order to determine the treatment of urinary incontinence, the type of urinary incontinence should be determined. Urinary incontinence is usually caused by sagging genital organs. Surgical method is used in sagging due to weakness in connective tissue.

From a gynecological point of view, urinary incontinence types are divided into two.

First, problems occurring in the storage phase of the bladder: urge urinary incontinence, stress urinary incontinence and mixed urinary incontinence.

Second, problems that occur in the emptying phase of the bladder: overflow urinary incontinence and functional urinary incontinence.

Stress urinary incontinence is very common in women. It occurs especially during coughing and sneezing. In urge urinary incontinence, there is an urgent urge to go to the toilet and urinary incontinence occurs without going to the toilet. The presence of both types at the same time is mixed urinary incontinence. Overflow urinary incontinence is a small amount of urine leakage without the sensation of urinating. In some cases, urine leakage is not noticed. Total urinary incontinence is the type of urinary incontinence that is noticed with wet underwear. This problem should be treated meticulously and treatment methods should aim to cure the disease.

In urge urinary incontinence, bladder training and exercises, oral bladder relaxants and intra-bladder medications (botox) are used.

In stress-type urinary incontinence, pelvic floor exercises are used in mild types and suspension surgeries applied to the urethra in moderate to severe cases.

The biggest advantage of urinary incontinence surgeries is that the patient can be discharged on the same day. If these surgeries are performed by specialized physicians, a high rate of success is achieved. Kegel exercises may be recommended to patients before surgery.
